Foundational Skills for Budding Artists

I'm so excited to be offering classes for young artists!  I was obsessed with art as a kid, and although art at school was fabulous, I would have loved more targeted mentoring.  I attended Art College in Brisbane and became a graphic artist (and signwriter later).  Art has always been a part of how I've earned my living and I can't wait to share what I know with your art-loving kids.

This course will help your budding artist to develop with skill drills, the use of different mediums, learning how to "see" and some artistic styles of expressing that.  I'll meet each artist where they're at and teach them how to learn, practice and improve.

Some of what they will learn

First of all they will learn to love practicing art skills!  I'm teaching with subject matter and exercises that are fun and yet will do a lot to advance their skills and understanding.

  • pencils and brushes - skills and applications

  • learning to use different art mediums and tools

  • drawing, layout and planning

  • light and shadow, perspective and scenery

  • "seeing" - drawing from life, copying, resizing and creating from imagination

  • In each lesson the artists produce works in their art pads using the skills from the lesson

  • the final two (longer) classes will be for each artist to design and paint a Major Work in acrylic on canvas.
